IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIt's Time for UFC 136 part 2

UFC® 136 Live on Pay Per View
Chael Sonnen vs Brian "All American" Stann
Sonnen is a wrestler with a big mouth and enough political experience to know what sound bytes sell tickets.
Stann is a decorated US Marine Veteran and boxer.

Girly (and a little biased) Fact: Chael is coming of a loss to Anderson Silva via Submission (Triangle Armbar). As much as my massive dislike for Sonnen burns my fingers as I type this....he did last longer against the The Spider than most. But I still hate him.

UFC® 136 Live on Pay Per View
Jose "Scarface" Aldo vs Kenny "Ken-Flo" Florian

UFC® 136 Live on Pay Per View

Frankie "The Answer" Edgar vs Gray "The Bully" Maynard
Edgar is looking to avenge his only loss & defend his belt for the second/third time. These two have fought twice before. The first time Maynard walked away the winner via unanimous decision in UFC Fight Night 13. Fast forward a few years to last January when Gray takes another shot at Frankie  the belt that Frankie had just taken & then defended from BJ Penn. It ended in a very frustrating draw (with me wishing Dana would issue a refund) and here we are for all the marbles.

Girly Fun Fact: Other than the draw with Edgar, Maynard remains undefeated.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIt's Time for UFC 136

UFC Prelims have already begun free on SPIKE.

Girly Tip: Refer to these fighters as "Curtain Jerkers" with mild disgust to impress the boys. For example; "I can't believe Showtime is now a Curtain Jerker!"

The Spike prelims began with:

UFC® 136 Live on Pay Per View
Anthony "Showtime" Pettis vs Jeremy "Lil' Heathen" Stephens

Girly Fun Fact: Pettis astonished the crowd in WEC 53 by surprising Ben Henderson with a crazy Matrix-esque running up the cage kick. It was awesome!!!

UFC® 136 Live on Pay Per View
Demian Maia vs Jorge Santiago

Girly Fun Fact: Maia's UFC 122 fight with Anderson Silva made me lose all respect for the arrogant, disrespectful showboating of the Spider.

UFC 135 BONES VS RAMPAGE TITLE FIGHT RESULTS

I'm sooooooo excited! This is my favorite weight class...205 lbs. This has always been the hardest class to defend and hold the championship belt. I've got chills! I am a huge fan of both of these fighters. I love Rampage's personality and raw power and Bones' intelligent approach to the fight game.

OK....for you newbies out there, Welcome and let me give you a little background on these two fighters.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is nuts (literally..look up what happened after he fought Forrest Griffin) but I LOVE him. He says inappropriate things and REALLY likes to talk about lady parts. But he makes me laugh! He was a star in Pride before moving over to the UFC. He was probably the worst coach in the history of The Ultimate Fighter series but I don't care because he put live chickens in Rashad Evan's car and stuffed unicorns in the other team's dressing room. He is goofy, wears a giant chain link necklace, howls at the moon, and knocks people out! He has knocked out Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Marvin Eastman, and nearly killed Ricardo Arona with a slam (if you haven't seen it go look it up on youtube, I'll wait).

Jon "Bones" Jones is a phenom. He began training in MMA 3 years ago and has the Championship belt around his waist, that is truly insane. He had me at his first fight in the octagon. A nobody curtain-jerker had me mesmerized. From that moment on he dominated every opponent that Joe Silva threw at him. He dismantled my boy Shogun to win the belt. And he wants to keep it.

These two REALLY do not like each other. It isn't just to hype the fight. So it's gonna be good.

It's Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jones is jumping around....Rampage looks pissed....they touch gloves and here we go:
Bones does some sort of monkey-like low to the ground stance then springs at Rampage's legs...Rampage sprawls to defend...Bones get Rampage on the fence...lots of knees to the former champion's thigh area..Rampage tries to tell the ref that one landed in the groin to no avail..Bones gets Rampage in a half hearted guillotine but Rampage pulls off his hand and he lets it go. They lock up both trying to think ahead to their next move....ouch! Sharp elbow to Rampage's face, but he ate it...Foot stomp by Bones (most consider that a B#@!* move)...Quinton knows how to avoid the knees from this position...They finally break and stand up to strike again...a little pawing from both....Bones throws an unsuccessful knee...Rampage switches his stance....Rampage deflects a couple of Bone's long leg kicks (he has the wingspan of a pterodactyl)...Rampage is more of a traditional boxer and Bones is a leg kickin' fool! So that may be trouble...they lock up...Bones goes for a single leg sweep take down but Rampage recovers quickly. I haven't seen Rampage so nimble in a long time....some punches evaded by Rampage...I'm seeing some good head movement (yeah!)...Nevermind, Bones connects his foot with Quinton's face but he eats it and shows no effect...Jones is starting to give the former champion a Muay Thai lesson (Quinton is in trouble if Bones has studied his former fights because Rampage doesn't fair so well against hard leg kicks, watch Griffin vs Rampage)...a few unsuccessful punches and kicks...they lock up again...working for position...Jones sets him up and delivers a lightening fast spinning back elbow (just like he did to Shogun)...Rampage shakes it off...they stand up...Jones throws a wheel kick, misses then Rampage goes for a take down..Bones sprawls...they are back up ...Rampage throws a barrage of hay-makers seconds before the bell but Jones slipped each one.

Round 2 starts with Rampage attacking..they lock up..stand up to trade...both slipping punches..Jones connects...couple of jab kicks..Jones jabs and moves away...pawing..spinning back kick from Jones but doesn't seem to bother Rampage...Rampage appears to be getting tired...Jones jumps to pull guard attempting a flying triangle bringing Quinton down on top of him in the final 3 seconds. AWESOME!

Round 3 starts with a little pawing and boxing...Jones ducks a possible knockout punch...Rampage throws a couple hard leg kicks...Jones' tries for a guillotine, Rampage pops out when Jones tries an inside trip...Jones ducks a giant winging left hook...Jones is jabbing...Rampage is unable to close the distance on his long-armed opponent..Jones shoots in for a single leg, takes Rampage to the ground, and instantly moves to side control...then transitions into full mount and scoots Quinton toward the fence...Rampage eats a few elbows before he struggles to his feet...Rampage escaped a very bad position but not before Jones' sharp left elbow opens him up...bleeding but back in his comfort zone, Rampage slips a few punches...Jones keeps the former champ at a distance then lands a kick to Rampage's knee that makes me queasy...Rampage throws a couple of giant hooks but Jones easily moves out of harms way...Quinton looks tired and frustrated...Jones misses left hook but continues with jabs...Quinton throws one jab...Jones attempts a flying knee followed by a switch kick but Rampage slips and dodges both...Jones fakes and lands a nice punch...Jones drops and shoots at the last second...Round ends and Jones stands up with his head still between Quinton's legs and drops him to the mat. As if to say "This is what would have happened".

Round 4 begins with Rampage moving forward and Jones evading his attack...Bones throws a kick and slips
It's all over!

Jonny "Bones" Jones successfully defends his belt via rear naked choke in the 4th round!

Thanks!!

Thank you for visiting my blog. It is nice to know that I am not just talking to myself. I have a difficult time finding anyone to talk to about MMA news and events. Most of my friends are female teachers and a little too girly. I love them but, this girl needs a good fight at least twice a month. Thanks to my husband for listening to my frequent rants. And thanks to Dennis & Derrick who always listen patiently when I get rolling!

So, join me tomorrow for the Title Fight results and Girly awards.
Thanks Everyone!

Also, It would be super cool if you could click on an ad or two
 to help fund the site.

UFC 135 - Live Update 4

UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes walked in to "A Country Boy Can Survive". I cannot tell you what Josh Koscheck walked out to because the crowd erupted into hate-filled booing before he even emerged. Lots of "sticking and moving".
Matt Hughes thwarts a take down and shows off his newly honed boxing skills.Koscheck rocks Hughes...then again a few seconds later. A big overhand right sends the country boy down. And literally seconds before the bell, Hughes goes nite-nite.

Koscheck gets the knockout via hammer fists to the face

I LOVE THIS SPORT!!!!!!

UFC 135 - Live Update 3

I left this fight off of my previous post by mistake. My bad!
Sorry guys...you know I love the Heavyweights!
UFC® 135 Live on Pay Per View
"Big" Ben Rothwell (263 lbs) vs
Mark "Super Samoan" Hunt (261 lbs)

Rothwell takes the shorter Hunt down and transitions quickly to full mount early in the first. Hunt gets an under hook and works back up to his feet. Hunt defends a single leg then winds up having side control. Rothwell's eye meets Hunt's elbow....nasty! Down..up...down...up.

Hunt gets the 1st take down of round 2 and stays in full mount for awhile. Hunt lays on Rothwell punching that bloody eye until he goes for an unsuccessful arm bar in the final seconds.

Rothwell was soooooo exhausted that he collapsed but still continued into the 3rd round. The chicken-legged Rothwell manged to absorb a few more shots and sprawl. Hunt wasn't much better. Up...down...up...down. Rogan calls "Big" Ben a walking zombie. The two spent heavyweights moved clumsily around the octagon until the end.

Mark Hunt finally wins after 3 grueling rounds via unanimous decision.
Thank god!  I thought somebody was gonna have a heart attack!

Fun Fact:
Before this fight Rothwell had won 15 of his last 17 fights
Another Fun Fact:
Hunt had a 30 hour flight from Australia, can you say "Jet Lag"?

UFC 135 - Live Update 2

The BIG Hawaiian Heavyweight Travis Browne bested Rob Broughton via unanimous decision. Not the most exciting fight. The major downfall of heavyweight fighters is usually lack of cardio, so the fights tend to slow if they go the distance.

UFC 135 - Live Update 1

Nate Diaz is a BEAST! He just defeated Takanori Gomi via arm bar. This was definitely the BEST PERFORMANCE of Nate's UFC career. Diaz had Gomi on the run with his fast hands and quirky movements. Gomi took quite a few solid knee wobbling punches before he dropped and Nate maneuvered to get a Triangle Choke, but snatched an opportunity to end it with an arm bar. The Diaz brothers are not my favorite fighters, but I cannot ignore their skills.

Fun Fact:
Nate's brother Nick beat Gomi in Pride 33 via Gogoplata - but it was later overturned due to Nick's post fight drug test

BONES VS RAMPAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UFC 135 IS ALREADY UNDERWAY!
I am sooooooo excited (as usual)!

good fights toward the end.

Free UFC tonight on VERSUS!

You can get your MMA fix for free tonight at 9pm ET on Versus. The card is promising, especially for a non-PPV event!

The main event is Hardy vs Lytle.

Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy is a trash talking Brit with the striking skills to back it up. Chris "Light's Out" Lytle is a five time "Fight of the Night" bonus winner. Both have something to prove. Hardy is coming off a 3 fight losing streak and Lytle has announced his retirement after this fight, so he will most likely wanna go out with a bang.

Fun Fact: Lytle's last fight was a loss via unanimous decision to Brian Ebersole...owner of the "Hair-row" (see UFC 133 Girly Awards post)

UFC 133 Girly Awards!!!!!

Dana hands out his awards with bonus checks, ours come with a hug & a giggle....no one has ever claimed the hug ;o(

Best Shorts:
Dennis Hallman
OMG!
Hallman lost a bet and entered the octagon wearing a tiny blue speedo that made the ring girl’s short shorts look like capri pants. They were so small that he had to keep reaching back there and pulling them out of his crack. I am pretty sure that I saw his sack!

Best Hair & Most In Need of a Stylist:
Brian Ebersole
Brian Ebersole shaved his chest hair into an arrow, now known as the "hair-row", pointing at his chin. The best part was that he was fighting the dude in the speedo. The Hallman vs Ebersole Fight was by far the most entertaining bout of the night. At certain angles it looked like the arrow was pointing at Hallman's man panties!!!!

Best Name:
Constantinos Philippou
Listening to the color commentary of the fight between Philippou (pronounced fill-a-poo) and Rivera had me giggling like a 13 year old boy. Comments like "fill-a-poo on top" just did me in.

UFC 133 Recap

Overall..it was a pretty good card, definitely entertaining.
Lets start with the prelim fights that were televised for free on Spike:

Chad Mendes defeated Rani Yahya by unanimous decision

*******************************************************

Alexander Gustafsson defeated Matt Hamil via TKO (the ref stopped the fight because Hamil could no longer intelligently defend himself from the barrage of punches & elbows hitting him in the face) in Round 2. I really admire Hamil and found it difficult to see him first as a curtain jerker and then taking such a savage beat down. My heart sank even more when he announced his retirement 2 days later.

*******************************************************

Rory Macdonald defeated Mike Pyle via TKO in the first round. Not my favorite fight. Rogan compared MacDonald to a young GSP.
*******************************************************

Constantinos Philippou edged out Jorge Rivera by split decision. Not the best action but the best color commentary (see Girly Awards post for details). Still pretty impressed by Rivera, cuz he is old as dirt ya'll.
*******************************************************

Brian Ebersole defeated Dennis Hallman via elbows to the face (TKO) in Round 1. Although short, this was by far my favorite fight! The Hair-row vs Man Panties (see Girly Awards post for details)

When announcing the post fight bonuses UFC President Dana White said "Ebersole's added money was a reward for "getting those horrifying shorts off TV as soon as possible," and "He deserves every dime of the $70,000 he made tonight."
*******************************************************
Vitor Belfort knocked out Yoshihiro Akiyama 1:52 in round 1. The old Vitor is back...vicious and lightning fast. It was awesome. There is some controversy about whether or not Vitor landed an elbow to the back of Sexyama's neck right at the end but no official ruling was made. So...Suck it Haters!
*******************************************************
And finally the main event,
Rashad Evans defeated Tito Ortiz via TKO in Round 2 and I did a little happy dance. It was a short dance because although I loathe Tito, I do not like Rashad either. These two fought before in a somewhat boring match that ended in a controversial draw. But Ortiz was no match for Evans this time. A violent knee to the body from Rashad dropped Tito who quickly "turtled up" and took a beat down. Come on Dana....please forget Tito's phone number!!!

How Could I Forget About Shonie Carter?!?!

True "Die-Hard" MMA fans all over are probably calling me out for forgetting Shonie Carter in my previous post about the WORST SHORTS in MMA history. For those of you who did not immediately summon up a mental picture of Shonie on TUF painting a portrait while wearing a bedazzled hat & speedo.....I will explain.

Shonie is ...well..an individual. During his stint on The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback the veteran MMA fighter and self-proclaimed inventor of the "Spinning Backfist" built a reputation for questionable fashion sense and lack of modesty.

Let's talk about SHORTS girls!!!!!

After each event I enjoy giving the guys a little feedback on their selection of apparel (not that they care) and overall image. Sometimes its good...sometimes its well...let's call it "constructive" criticism.

So in preparation for tonight's event, I thought we could review a few of the WORST shorts in UFC history...

Ok..let's start at the beginning...checkout Ken Shamrock's camel toe!
In his many years of MMA, Ken has amassed a huge collection of  Speedo Shorts

I think these pics are actually from his WWE days but they still count!
Alright ladies....I know that many of you will disagree with this one. GSP (in the red) is known for his tiny and extremely tight shorts. As he fights...they crawl up & settle into crevices and well...It gives me the creeps! TMI!

These shorts are one of his BIGGEST pairs. I fully expect him to come out in a thong one day!
Maurico "Shogun" Rua...giggle & blush...is soooooo dreamy, but I wish he would wear some board shorts every once in a while! I guess being a former Brazillian Model gives him the confidence to "Rock out" with his....nevermind..you get the picture.

This is not the best pic of the creamy caramel colored hottie!
Rich...Rich...Rich! I like pink too but that is the wrong shade for your skin-tone buddy! ;o)
Rich Franklin has since changed to a darker pink that compliments his coloring better. I'm a girl...if you don't get this post than you are probably not a female and have definitely not had your colors done at the mall!!!! ;o)

Further proof that Rich is secure in his manhood.
WOW! I think this pic of Josh Barnett should be sold in one of those magazines behind the counter and sealed in plastic.

He looks like a giant flat-chested woman with a crew cut.
OK...I'll admit it...it isn't the shorts on this one. At least Roy Nelson isn't sporting the trademark mullet.
Ewwww yuck!
Please...please...please forgive me Forrest.
You know that I love you and am your number one fan (but not in a stalker kinda weirdo way...well I do have your full size cutout pic next to my desk at work...anyway...let's move on) but I have to include you in this list. That pale beige color is horrible. They look like they haven't been washed!
I love you...wear whatever you want!!!!
Once again I am forcing myself to put a fighter that I truly love on the list. Mirko Cro-Cop is a MMA icon. Even though his Croatian flag patterned shorts make him instantly recognizable...they are still ugly. Sorry Mirko. Don't stop wearing them!

These shorts look like giraffe print at first glance.

These shorts should hang in the UFC Hall of Fame! (And yes...I am purposefully not commenting on the other dude's hair...that will be addressed in another post)

Alright Ladies...UFC 122 is tonight...and it is FREE!

Whoop..Whoop! It really takes so little to excite me. This card isn't exactly star-studded but I think the fights will definitely be worth the price...especially the Main Event - Marquardt v. Okami
Tune in to Spike at 8:00 pm Central and check back here for post fight chatter & my Girlie Awards!

UFC 118 Part 2

Randy "The Natural" Couture vs. James "Lights Out" Toney
Ok...this fight isn't for a belt...it's for bragging rights. Randy Couture is a UFC Hall of Famer, MMA legend and freak of nature. He is 47 years old and still a force to be reckoned with. Every UFC fan knows his name...quick memorize it if you want to have any credibility. James Toney is a former professional boxing champion and a two-time Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year. This is his debut in the Octagon and many hardcore UFC fans want to see him get dominated. Bottom line..Boxing and MMA are very different. Can Toney make the transition? If your betting...take Couture!

My 2 cents: I love Randy and I really want to see him put on a show. I think he will shoot early and submit the big arrogant boxer. Long live "The Natural"!

Alright Ladies..UFC 118 is tonight and you need to be ready!

UFC 118  Part 1

Who's on the card? The main event is for the UFC Lightweight Championship

Frankie "The Answer" Edgar vs. B.J. "The Prodigy" Penn
This is a much anticipated rematch. In UFC 112 (April 2010) Edgar pulled a huge upset by using a "stick and move" strategy to snatch the Lightweight Championship belt from B.J. Penn via Unanimous judges' decision.
No one...and I mean NO ONE...thought the Jersey brawler could defeat the athletically gifted Hawaiian who had not lost as a lightweight in 8 years! B.J is an overly confident trash talker and Frankie is dying to prove the first match up wasn't a fluke. This should be a fun fight to watch, but if you are betting with your guy...you better take Penn.

My 2 Cents: I would cheer for Satan over B.J. Penn. If I published a dictionary, his picture would be beside "conceited."
